November 27, 2009 – Calling It What It Is

The mass media, as well as members of Congress, are referring to the exclusion of abortion coverage in the health care reform bills as if it was a simple appendectomy. A certain segment of our female population is especially outraged, calling it a “right to their bodies.” However, there is another “body” to be considered.

The New York Times recently ran an editorial, which lamented that women won the legal right to an abortion nearly four decades ago, yet to get the votes of pro-life Democrats, the House of Representatives amended its health-care legislation to ban abortion coverage in any insurance plan subsidized with taxpayer dollars. Let’s be honest and say what this really says.

What The New York Times was actually saying in its editorial in “real time” is: “Women won a legal right nearly four decades ago to have their unborn children killed, yet to get the votes of pro-life Democrats, the House of Representatives amended its health-care legislation to ban coverage of such killings in any insurance plan subsidized with taxpayer dollars.” I certainly would hope so!

I am not aware of our tax dollars paying any individual to have someone kill another human being that they would rather not have around. In fact, there would be much to-do about it in the mass media and prosecution would be certain.

Have you ever seen a sonogram of an unborn child! It looks human. It acts human. As a matter of fact, some European scientists discovered that babies cry in a way that imitates their mother’s speech, which they would have heard before birth. So, an unborn infant learns like a human. Why do we not speak of it as a human?
