ALTOONA AREA CHRISTIAN COALITION EVOLVES,
STRIKES CHORD WITH FORUM

(ALTOONA) – In the fall of 2006, the Altoona City Council passed an Illegal Alien Ordinance that could have meant homelessness and unemployment for some members of our community – including children and elderly. While supporting the notion of stopping the flow of illegal immigration, some church and community leaders, including Bishop Joseph, were concerned that the enforcement of the Altoona ordinance, as originally written, may have caused evictions and firings that would have impacted more than just an undocumented individual. Spouses, children, and other relatives—many of whom are legal citizens—would have lost their homes or financial means to live.
